BeaconArts' mission is to foster and encourage the advancement of the City of Beacon as a center for arts and culture. We work to enable resident artists of all disciplines to live and thrive in Beacon by widely promoting their projects and events, as well as to develop and facilitate inspiring, and inclusive, creative experiences and programs that promote a vibrant community and enrich the lives of our local citizens.
BeaconArts works to promote the cultural vibrancy that has become our community's trademark. Founded in 2002, BeaconArts proudly promotes and nurtures the city’s multi-faceted arts community while actively engaging in the vibrancy of the greater Hudson Valley.
Thanks to the ongoing support we receive through membership, BeaconArts provides resources and support for artists throughout the community. Much like the art itself, these support systems derive from intimate relationships and look different for different projects. Some of the methods by which BeaconArts supports the artist community include: fiscal sponsorships, annual artist member shows, curation and management of art in public spaces, artist networking events, facilitated collaborations between artists and local businesses, and more. BeaconArts prides itself on being a resource for an arts-oriented community and aims to provide creative experience for makers, consumers, and businesses alike. We are all connected through the creative economy.
This project is made possible, in part, through funding from the County of Dutchess and Destination Dutchess (formerly Dutchess Tourism, Inc.) and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson.

John Procario took his love for sculpture and brought it into the world of design. After studying sculpture for the majority of his life he developed a specific kind of aesthetic that influences his work in furniture and lighting. It began with his idea of wood being a metaphor for the body. Wood will bend comfortably to a point, then break; just like bone or muscle, wood has its limit. What John was trying to do in his work was push that limit to create a sense of strain in the wood's gesture. Conceptually, he was trying to allow beauty to be the product of strain. Precariousness, harmony, balance, stress, and fluidity are some of the words he uses to describe his aesthetic. His furniture and sculptural luminaires are made up of bent wood, and done so in such a way that no two are the same. He does not use forms to bend and control the shape. Instead, he likes to allow this idea of letting the wood do as it pleases a bit, making the process something like a collaboration between the craftsman and the wood's personality. The outcome is something beautiful and organic.
